Format Descriptions

REGIONAL MEXICAN

This is the most popular Spanish format in the United States; culturally targets the biggest segment of the Hispanic population and demographically targets people 18-49. It consists of the following music styles: Banda, Norteño, Ranchero, Duranguense and Corridos.  Its core artists are: Vicente Fernández, Tigres del Norte, Conjunto Primavera, Banda Recodo and Joan Sebastian. Available names: “La Buena”, “Radio Lobo”, “La Raza”,  “El Norte”.

SPANISH AC

This format is the equivalent of Adult Contemporary  in English formats. It is based on solo romantic artists and grupos. Spanish AC  targets a female strong 18-49 demographic,  and its core artists are  Luis Miguel, Juan Gabriel, Marco Antonio Solís and Pepe Aguilar.  Available names: “Concierto”.

TRADITIONAL MEXICAN

This format is made up of the best traditional Mexican Music. Only the pure gold hits of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and all the contemporary traditional hits.   Its target demographic is people 25+ and its core artists are Pedro Infante, José Alfredo  Jiménez and Vicente Fernández. Available names: “La Ranchera”, “Radio Ranchito”, “La Mexicana”,  “La Morena”.

SPANISH POP/ROCK

This format is based on modern solo artists and  groups in the pop and rock genres.  Spanish Pop targets 18-34 demographic and its  core artists are Shakira, Maná, Paulina Rubio and Ricky Martin. Available names: “XO”, “Club”

SPANISH  OLDIES

If you are looking for the most desired target audience, this is it. Not only does it target the most economically strong audience but a less competitive format. This format targets Hispanic from different cultural backgrounds and different music taste because the common denominator is a music era not a music gender. While everybody is fighting for the 18-34 target, this format will target the 25-54 mature audience. Musically, you will have the richest combination of hits from the last 4 decades (2000, 90’s, 80’s, and 70’s) the mega hits of all the Spanish formats from the last 35 to 40 years. TROPICAL

The Tropical format is made up of the best Latin  dance rhythm like Cumbia, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Reggeton and Pop Dance.  Its target demographic is persons 18-49 and its core artists are Aventura, Mark Anthony, Celia Cruz, Don Omar and Sonora  Dinamita. Available names: “Azúcar”, “La Movida”,  “Sonido”.

    Radio Lobo - Albuquerque, NM:

    In 1994 KLVO-FM rose to #1 within three months and has maintained its position. In 1996 five of the stations (KRAY, KLBN, KLVO, KIWI, KIDI) consulted by Radio ideas were recorded as being #1 at the same time.

    La Ley - Chicago, IL:

    In July 1997 Spanish Broadcasting System changed the format from English to Spanish and within six months the station soared to #1 in Spanish.

    Que Buena - Los Angeles, CA:

    Eduardo Leon, Radio ideas CEO, after being named VP of Programming for Liberman Broadcasting in October of 1998, the station went from #6 to #3 in Spanish and from #26 to #6 general market and it continues to maintain its position.
